Description

As the Urban Folk revival caught on during the 1950s and early '60s, college educated young people became more and more enamored with music from the early 20th century. Some stopped at Bluegrass, while others such as Mike Seeger and John Cohen of the New Lost City Ramblers dug deeper into the string bands and Singer-Songwriters of the '20s and earlier. "Old-Time" was a term used by the original country folk to describe their music, and the folk revivalists picked up on the name as well. Today, it refers to acoustic music based to some degree around the style of early String Bands like the Skillet Lickers and groups like the Carter Family.
