Description

Techno, by its very nature, is a pretty minimal form of music. Not quite minimal enough for some, including Cologne resident Mike Ink (aka Kompakt records founder Wolfgang Voigt) and Dusseldorf's Thomas Brinkman, who specialize in stripping techno down to microscopic components and examining each drum kick in minute, exacting detail. Similarly, glitch house, click house or microhouse exponents such as MRI, Akufen and Pole appear more interested in the interference generated by electronic circuits than any debt to the dancefloor (as the house tag might suggest), often constructing beats entirely from the glitches that other producers try so hard to eradicate. However, there's no denying that at this intersection between the worlds of house music and academic, electro-acoustic exploration, some incredible -- even danceable -- music is being created.
