Description
A studio creation of the late 1960s, Bubblegum Pop is esentially anti-hippie music that features short, catchy, and upbeat boy/girl jingles. Typical of the genre were the Ohio Express' "Yummy Yummy Yummy," the 1910 Fruitgum Co.'s "Indian Giver," and the cartoon band the Archies' "Sugar, Sugar." Bubblegum Pop still exists as a somewhat derogatory label for teen pop artists like Britney Spears and Backstreet Boys, while the tradition of guileless, boy/girl pop lives on in Cuddlecore and Twee Pop.
