Christian Rap/Hip-Hop

Christian Rap/Hip-Hop lays down lyrics of praise over hip-hop rhythms. At first inspection, the streetwise sensibility of hip-hop and its often violent themes doesn't seem to make an ideal vehicle for the peaceful, easy vibes of modern Christian music. Artists DC Talk, T-Bone and Transformation Crusade have shown that there is indeed an audience for this unique hybrid. MC Hammer was the first mainstream rapper to score a hit with a distinctly Christian theme; in making "Pray" a hit single in the early 1990s, he introduced his broad audience to a style that was still in its infancy.
