Description

Inspired by the more Hard Rock edges of Parliament/Funkadelic, the Red Hot Chili Peppers -- who remained a Los Angeles anomaly for years -- gave Funk an even harder edge, giving rise to Funk Metal. Combining bassist Flea's hard funk lines with the intense, Heavy Metal and psychedelic guitar of Hillel Slovek, the Red Hots set the standard that many other bands would follow. Living Color and Primus were popular proponents of the style, with strong musicianship focusing equal attention on the guitar and bass. The sound continues to fuel contemporary musicians -- Thrash Metal acts like Korn and Limp Bizkit owe obvious debts to the Red Hots -- while Funk Metal acts regularly pop up on the regional level.
