Hindi

Though Hindi is only one of India's several official languages, Hindi-language films are the biggest sector of the Indian movie industry and the best known abroad. These movies mainly come out of Bombay, a filmmaking powerhouse of a city that has been nicknamed "Bollywood." Don't let the name deceive you, though -- Bollywood puts out more films annually than any other city in the world, including Hollywood. Many famous playback singers (the people who sing the music that film actors lip-sync) are considered Hindi film singers, but it's not uncommon for these artists to sing in several languages for other regional movie industries.
