Rhapsody

This trio set is the perfect showcase for Shearing, with the Englishman playing in a lean, vamping, audience-pleasing style that has sustained entire careers (Gene Harris, Red Garland, Billy Taylor, Ellis Larkins). This recording shows another side of Shearing's piano playing and though he's backed by Ahmed Jamal's rhythm section, this is a mainstream swing-to-bop set.
