Goldfrapp

Following the lush pastoral sounds of Felt Mountain, Alison and Will opt for the deep mechanical pulse of city life on their second outing, sounding like Danielle Dax meets Fischerspooner (without straying into electro-naff). There's a nod to earlier ethereal work on tracks like "Hairy Trees," but mostly they've swapped sandals for stilettos, and it works.

On their second album, Goldfrapp swerve away from the elegant trip-hop of their debut
and begin to throb, buzz and blurt. Black Cherry is both retro and futuristic, like vintage
synth pop heard through a wall of distortion. Tons of bands imitate the sounds of the early
