Along with inviting a cavalcade of monsters (oh my!) to their indie rockin' new wave party, Hellogoodbye have squeezed out a can of Cheez Whiz on their full-length debut. On songs like "Here in Your Arms," their unpredictable mix of bouncy power pop and Nintendo-era synthesizers has the tendency to swerve into a messy collision between New Order and a vocoder-clasping Cher. When they stop trying so hard to goof off with special effects, their sincere yet witty songwriting blasts through.
