Herbie Hancock had a hand in the evolution of grooving hard bop, the avant-garde, crossover jazz funk, arty synth music, movie scores, mainstream acoustic piano, and more. (Whew!) This two-disc retrospective does a good job of showcasing not only Hancock's development but also changes in jazz and popular music. It also includes Herbie tracks with Sonny Rollins and Miles Davis, making it a must for new fans and a reminder to old ones just how great Hancock really is.
