About

Huggy Bear emerged from the British Isles in 1992 and were immediately embraced by the Riot Grrrl revolution that surrounded the Olympia scene. The group was significant in the movement because its lead singer was a boy. The band shone with youthful exuberance, making records wrapped in political manifestos while refusing interviews and photo-ops along the way. They created controlled chaos, with a ramshackle contingent of hammering rhythms (on anything they could find), noisy, primitive instruments and lung-wrenching vocals. Both the first release, 1992’s Rubbing the Impossible to Burst EP (UK, Wiiija), coupled with a second later in the same year, the Kiss Curl for the Kid's Lib Guerillas EP (Wiiija), stand as testaments to a band making up with high energy what they may have lacked in skill.
