Illya Kuryaki and the Valderramas

About

Named for a character in the 1960s cult television show El Agente De Cipol (aka The Man From U.N.C.L.E.), Illya Kuryaki was started by Dante Spinetta and Emmanuel Horvilleur in 1990. Long before Latin rap became hip, the group took risks by recording almost exclusively funk and rap albums. Their 1991 debut Fabrico Cuero launched several hits, notably "Es Tuya Juan," "Jubilados Violentos" and the title track. But it was "Abarajame" off of 1995's Chaco that exploded throughout Latin America, helping the band score an appearance on MTV Unplugged and a chance to record in New York and Los Angeles.
