In the spirit of keeping traditional music sounding fresh, Jim Lauderdale's Bluegrass refreshingly veers away from covering tried and true stringband chestnuts. Writing new songs within the margins of the genre, Bluegrass delivers a comforting familiarity to these brand new melodies and lyrics. Pickin' purists will appreciate the fact that Lauderdale doesn't meander into jammy, progressive "newgrass" territory. Guitar, dobro, mandolin, banjo and fiddle hold it down, but his gritty voice gives these roots plenty of Americana nourishment.
