John Fahey

America was supposed to be a double album, but Fahey pared it down to what are now tracks 10 through 14 before its 1971 release. For the CD reissue, the album has been restored to its original concept. America now contains 13 compositions, and none of them -- believe it or not -- is filler. Unlike his late '60s output, there are no avant-garde studio tricks here, just the maverick and his acoustic guitar, creating a uniquely American form of folk music that knows no stylistic boundaries.
