Jorge Negrete

Mexico's singing cowboy started out as an opera singer but made the transition to ranchera in the mid-1930s. By the early '40s he was a bona fide film star, and songs like "Tequila y Limon," "Mexico Lindo y Querido" and "Yo Soy Mexicano" found their way into the nation's collective soul. His dramatic tenor might sound outdated to some today, but he's a genuine classic.
