Kitaro's two-disc An Ancient Journey holds true to its title and has the feel and texture of a grand historical novel. These wordless, melodic compositions fuse elements from the four corners of the globe and are larger in scope than most new age works. With its mix of flutes and orchestral synth work, the six-minute "Daichi" is a cinematic feast for the ears and very well could be the highlight of this sprawling, magical album.
