Kurt Weill

About

Though his legacy is the wry, jazz-colored Threepenny Opera (1928), German composer Kurt Weill was an enormous influence on both European art-music and Broadway during the mid-20th century. Born in 1900, he enjoyed wide acclaim by the time he immigrated to the United States in 1943. Aside from Threepenny, his early career highlights are many, including 1929's The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny and 1929's Happy End. From 1935 until his death in 1950, he wrote almost entirely for Broadway
