Description of Latin Rock

The term Latin Rock is interchangable with rock en Espanol, or Rock in Spanish. It is a broad term encompassing everything from straight-ahead alt-rock to crunchy, industrial funk. With varying levels of Latin rhythmic accents in their music, Latin Rock bands like Mexico City's Caifanes have experienced great success in Latin America while receiving only small doses of airplay in the U.S., due mainly to the unwillingness of the major labels' non-Latin divisions to sign and promote music with Spanish vocals. Exceptions to this rule include heavy-hitting alternative acts Puya and Ozomatli, whose lyrics include both English and Spanish.
