House music has never sounded so gooily yummy as it does on this 1998 album from Matthew Herbert. In many ways the transition record between his raw, early house jams and his more conceptual ventures, Around the House fits samples of everyday life (creaking bedsprings, a humming fridge) into loosely woven groovers that bob between chillout staples and roller-disco slow-dance classics. Interpreting the "house" in house music to mean "home," Herbert (along with Phil Parnell and singer Dani Siciliano) created an everlasting tribute to domestic bliss, however fleeting.
