Milt Jackson

Milt Jackson was already recognized as the most innovative vibraphonist of his generation when he recorded this set with guitarist Wes Montgomery (whose name was just becoming known outside jazz circles). The two are in perfect sync on this laid-back classic, jamming together on casual blues (including Benny Golson's "Stablemates") and showing off their special way with a ballad on a sumptuous reading of the standard "Stairway to the Stars." Wynton Kelly's fine trio makes up the rhythm section. Montgomery would soon break out on Verve Records and become the biggest crossover jazz star of the 1960s.
