Morgan Geist

Whatever Double Night Time refers to, it's certainly been a long time since Morgan Geist's last album -- 11 years, in fact. He's kept busy with his electro-disco duo Metro Area and his duties running the Environ label, but this is a welcome return to the solo life. Geist's subtle funk and dusky melodies are fleshed out by matching vocals from Junior Boys' Jeremy Greenspan, who brings just the right amount of pathos to moody arrangements and analog sparkle. It's mood music for in-between days -- a canny, contemplative balancing act between highs and lows.
