Though often overlooked in histories of Punk, there's a strong tradition of goofy Punk-Pop. The sound largely began with the ultra-goofy Dickies and was carried on overseas by bands like the Toy Dolls. These bands didn't take anything very seriously, least of all themselves. While many Punks sneared at keyboards, an instrument of New Wave posers, these bands embraced the maligned musical machine. Vancouver's New Town Animals carry on the sound of wildly energetic, melody-driven Punk songs that have good firm bite. They dress like they just walked off the set of "Valley Girl" and play like it's 1982 all over again. The New Town Animals help reclaim the term Punk-Pop for music that is more Punk than pop.
