Opening with the shadowy "Faithless Lover," Lowe turns delicate wordplay and insinuations into arching pop melodies, demonstrating that restraint makes for the best torch songs. And whether the sentiments are bleak ("Failed Christian"), seductive ("Freezing") or wistful ("Lonesome Reverie"), Lowe is a master of understatement. Dig My Mood is the work of a master.
