Nikki and the Corvettes

About

Nikki and the Corvettes were part of the late-1970s/early-1980s Girl Group revival that rode in on the tidal wave of Power Pop bands popular at the time. While groups like the Go-Go's and the Bangles polished their Punk-derived sound to make a stab at the big time, Nikki and the Corvettes' songs kept an innocent, light, beach party sound while singing about the subject on every teenage girl's mind -- boys. Nikki Corvette's sweet, misty voice works well with fluffy guitars that sound similar to the Real Kids' take on Eddie Cochran. Part of what makes Nikki & the Corvettes so great is their ability to make you feel like you're kicking around on the beach with your friends. The bubbly guitars and tingly, bouncy melodies go down easy and leave you thirsty for more. Though Nikki & the Corvettes didn't last long, they proved to have a lasting impression on girl pop bands, most notably Bobbyteens. They released only one single and an LP, both on Bomp Records.
