Nora O'Connor came to into her own musically while a member of the lurid, Chicago-based insurgent-country band, the Blacks. O'Connor's own material is a lighter affair that derives more from her acoustic coffeehouse days than the dark underbelly of the Blacks, highlighting this singer-songwriter's ability to find her own voice. Still, her warm, clear voice twangs just enough to let you know something of the Blacks has rubbed off.
