Paul Hindemith

The symphonic adaptation of the opera about painter Matthias Grünewald's life, "Mathis der Maler," is likely the greatest work in this collection. Hindemith's neoclassicism comes through with the use of Bach-esque contrapuntal techniques in a 20th century idiom.
