Persephone's Bees

Persephone's Bees are so smart they manage to make music that would have the Elephant 6 folks wetting their pants, even though Notes From the Underworld appeared years after that whole scene's heyday. Their version is better, too. Alice Cooper guitars, tinkly pianos, backing choruses borrowed from Sweet and gurgling moog-asms all add up to endlessly listenable pop music that is shiny and new, like some top of the line hi-fi set your dad brought home in 1979.
