Pharoah Sanders

This 1971 album saw Sanders moving away from the sidelong astral excursions that made up a lot of his early work. He also tones down the anarchic shrieking (save for "Red, White & Green"), and gets more into texture, creating a melodic album that's almost soothing, particularly on the title track.

Billboard has been talking about the big, new youth audience for jazz, and "The Greening
