This year's CMJ was hot. Sweltering. N.Y.C.'s subway stops became sweaty saunas; ornery cabbies seemed to take the long way on purpose; many venues didn't honor badges; panels were boring; and even Katz's pastrami sandwiches felt more expensive than usual. But the music was worth so it. It always is. Where else could you see underground hip-hop, fuzzed-out psychedelic rock, death disco and bearded folk freaks all in one shindig?
