Psychic TV

About

Psychic TV were originally conceived as an extension of Throbbing Gristle, featuring two of its original members -- Genesis P-Orridge and Pete Christopherson. Continuing to pursue the potentialities of combining parodic Pop sensibilities (as evidenced on 20 Jazz Funk Greats) and agit-prop art noise, the band's early recordings remained deeply anchored in a proto-Industrial "Theater of Pain" aesthetic. But by the time Allegory and Self was released in 1988, Peter Christopherson had long since left the band, giving Genesis P-Orridge free reign to indulge his experiments in dance electronica. Dubbing his style of trippy rhythms and post-modern sampling "Acid House," P-Orridge has continued drawing on the inspiration of mind-altering (or in his case mind-eradicating) drugs, the occult, and postmodern theories of cut-up and pastiche to create futuristic ritual music.
