Rhapsody

The second initial American collection of material from Q's celebrated modern jazz big band offers a full portrait of his democratic musical vision, which encompasses everything from 1940s dance swing and proto rock 'n' roll to soul jazz and impressionistic balladry to Count Basie style fingersnappers (Q had been one of Basie's arrangers). The absolute highlight of the LP is "Moanin'," which is the definitive outing of the celebrated Bobby Timmons hard bop number.
