Ram Jam

About

In a genre with few one-hit wonders, New York-based boogie rockers Ram Jam are a big exception: they earned their lone hit in the funky strut of "Black Betty." The group's members -- singer Myke Scavone, drummer Pete Charles, guitarist Bill Bartlett, and bassist Howie Arthur Blauvelt -- saw that track break the Top 20 in 1977, despite protests from the NAACP that its lyrics were offensive to African American women. The song was remixed in the 1990s and became a minor club hit.
