Richard Lloyd

About

Richard Lloyd is often considered a shadowy, secondary figure to prominent/legendary guitarists and songwriters like Tom Verlaine and Matthew Sweet. However, if one listens to Television's Marquee Moon, it's easy to hear how much Lloyd augmented and complemented Verlaine's distinctive musical voice. On his own, he's opted for a more straightforward musical approach than that of his former band, dabbling in folk and blues-oriented rock. He's still a blistering guitarist, and he can shred in a manner that's both loose and inventive, making many more popular "guitar gods" sound like the showy, superficial players they are. As for his singing voice, there's a plaintive quality to his delivery (just listen to him cover Neil Young's "Heart of Gold") that's simply endearing.
