It's startling to hear Rob Dickinson's textured sonic gems without the washes of guitar that endeared his former group, the Catherine Wheel, to so many. These tracks, all culled from his solo debut, are stripped down to mere guitar and occasional harmonica, lending songs such as "The Storm" and "My Name Is Love" an airiness not heard on Fresh Wine For the Horses. Given a little room to breathe, these songs stand in a whole new light.
