Description of Blue-Eyed Soul

Blue-Eyed Soul refers to the music of white folks with an affinity and feeling for black rhythm and blues. Groups from the 1960s -- like the Righteous Brothers, the Box Tops and the Rascals -- are most commonly categorized here. But during the '70s, acts like David Bowie, Hall & Oates and Robert Palmer dipped their toes in this tradition with their soul-influenced songs, and the '80s brought Paul Young, Simply Red and George Michael. As soul and R&B drifted toward Dance Pop in the late '80s and '90s, Blue-Eyed Soul artists followed suit. Teen Beat acts like New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys could even arguably land in this category.
