Description of Instrumental Guitar Rock

The Hard Rock bands Mountain and the Jimi Hendrix Experience created music built more around guitar mastery than vocals. Running through the twin terrains of Heavy Metal and Prog, guitarists such as Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page, Eddie Van Halen and Ozzy Osbourne's departed guitarist Randy Rhoads continued to perfect more and more intricate and aggressive guitar styles. From this emerged a host of guitarists -- including Yngwie Malmsteen and Joe Satriani -- who record instrumental tunes that document their technical bravado and complex compositions.
