Ryuichi Sakamoto

Tony Takitani, a movie adapted from a short story by Japanese novelist Haruki Murakami, is an impressionistic, somber and minimalist mood piece. It's about an isolated artist who finds a short period of happiness with a young woman who turns out to be a shopaholic. Ryuichi Sakamoto's sparse, oddly beautiful piano score is strangely addictive, though it may leave you feeling a lot like the melancholy, psychologically-removed protagonist. Deeply affecting.
