This is the ex-Brand Nubian wordsmith's second solo release, following Wild Cowboys (1996). The State is an underappreciated treat from one of hip-hop's most unique mic touchers. An EP with only six tracks, X nonetheless comes nice over beats by Diamond D, Minnesota, and others. "You Can't Deny" and "X-Man" are both tight.
