A singer/rapper/guitarist coming straight out of Chico, Scapegoat Wax (aka Marty James) is one of the rare breed who can combine pop-rock with hip-hop and actually make it sound fresh. His first release, 1999's Luxurious came out on Goodvibe; he was soon signed to the Beastie's label Grand Royal. Okeeblow hit the scene in early 2001, showcasing his signature blend of tight SP-1200 beats, slightly jangly guitar work, retro keyboards, and diverse vocal styles. Whether delivering heartfelt singing or battle-ready rhymes, Scapegoat's mic presence is impressive throughout. His lyrics address topics like grocery store romance, homeless stoop dwellers, and Chico pride. One of the most ambitious and creative artists in the ever-evolving hip-hop universe, Scapegoat Wax is destined for greatness.
