Tenor saxophonist Scott Hamilton and pianist Bill Charlap are masters of mainstream jazz, a style that combines elements of bop with classic small group swing. This first meeting between the two modern masters goes even better than expected, with the quartet knocking out standards, be-bop classics and ballads. The elegant, mid-tempo jaunt through "Lullaby of the Leaves" is a standout.
