Souther Hillman Furay Band

Trouble in paradise, indeed. David Geffen's handpicked super-group sounds torn and frayed on its sophomore and last album. But that's part of the charm. Remember, this is mid-'70s Los Angeles, the age of confessional singer-songwriters. All the debauchery associated with that era spills into this collection of light country funk: Souther cheats on his trust-fund girlfriend ("Mexico"), Furay longs for real love ("On the Line"), and Hillman doubts just about everything ("Follow Me Through").

Country-rock aperçu of the month: this band usually goes by its initials because they stand for Sh*t Hits the Fan. Or do I mean Fans? (Grade - C-)
