My Island is Echo and the Bunnymen-meets-Idlewild-meets a Pink Floyd you can take home to Mom. Almost every song has mosh pit-inducing guitar riffs, thundering drums and classic rock melodies, as in "Nice Guy" and "It's Alright Blondie." Sliding from one minor note to the next, Jason Martin's brooding vocals keep the neck hairs tingling. The natives on this Island are restless (more upbeat than 59's usual), churning and groovy. Can one shoegaze and smolder at the same time? SF59 can.
