As one of the first famous rappers out of Philly (alongside Schoolly D, Cash Money & Marvelous, and Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince), Steady B hit it big with early singles like "Bring The Beat Back" (1986) and "Use Me (Before I Let Go)." He released five solo albums between '86 and '91, though by the early '90s his popularity was at an all-time low. In 1996, he and his old partner Cool C were arrested for a botched bank heist that ended in the murder of a policewoman. C received a death sentence, while Steady B got life in prison.
