How do I set up Rhapsody on my Squeezebox?
To
set up Rhapsody on your Squeezebox, you will first set up the Squeezebox
player, then your SqueezeNetwork account. The second step is setting up your
Squeezebox to access Rhapsody music, either directly from Rhapsody's servers
(recommended), or via the Rhapsody software on your computer.
First, set up the Squeezebox device and your SqueezeNetwork account:
Please note:
If you need any help with this section (steps 1-3), contact Squeezebox Support.
-
Connect Squeezebox to speakers, power,
and Internet, and make sure the remote control has two AA batteries in it.
Please see the Connecting Squeezebox section of the Squeezebox Owner's Guide if you would like more
detail.
- Go to www.squeezenetwork.com
and register an account.
- If you did not already do so when you registered your account, sign back in to www.squeezenetwork.com and associate your Squeezebox with your SqueezeNetwork account:
-
Click the Players link at
the top of the page.
- Enter your Player PIN and click the Add player button.
Then, choose how you would like to set up your Squeezebox to access Rhapsody
music: directly from Rhapsody's servers
(recommended), or via the Rhapsody software on your computer.
Option 1: Set up the Squeezebox to access
music directly from Rhapsody's servers. (Recommended)
This option allows you to access all music
stored in My Library that you originally obtained through Rhapsody Music Guide,
such as subscription and purchased music.
Advantages:
You can access your Rhapsody music even when your computer is off; you do not
need to install Rhapsody on your computer; you avoid DRM configuration on your
computer; and system resources are freed up.
Disadvantage: Because the Squeezebox does not communicate with your
computer, it cannot access music that is listed in My Library but stored on
your computer's hard drive, such as MP3s or ripped CDs.
To
set up your Squeezebox to access music directly from Rhapsody's servers:
-
From your www.squeezenetwork.com
page, click the Accounts & Music Services link at the top of
the page.
- Select the Rhapsody tab.If you are an existing Rhapsody user,
click I already have a Rhapsody account and follow the onscreen
instructions.
If you do not already have a Rhapsody account, select I accept the Rhapsody trial terms and conditions and follow onscreen instructions. You will have to return to the Rhapsody tab sign up for a paid Rhapsody account before the 30 free-day trial is up or your Rhapsody music will no longer be playable. - On the Squeezebox player, select Rhapsody.
From here you can select My Library, Music Guide, Search, Playlists, or
Channels.
Option 2: Set up the Squeezebox to access
the Rhapsody software on your computer.
In this option, you set up the Squeezebox
to access the Rhapsody software on your computer, and the Rhapsody computer
software accesses Rhapsody's servers. This configuration allows you to access
all music stored in My Library, regardless of where the music was originally
obtained from.
Advantage:
You can play both music originally obtained from Rhapsody Music Guide (such as
subscription & purchased music), plus any music stored on your computer's
hard drive (such as MP3s and ripped CDs).
Disadvantage: You will need to have Rhapsody installed on your computer
and signed into whenever you want to listen to music. Your computer must be on
whenever you want to access Rhapsody from the Squeezebox.
To set up your Squeezebox to access music
through your computer:
- Install Rhapsody on your PC.
- Import the music files from your hard drive to My Library
in Rhapsody 4.
- Install SlimServer 7 and set up your
Squeezebox to access music through your computer. Refer to the Squeezebox Owner's Guide or contact Squeezebox Support if you need
assistance.
- Sign into Rhapsody on your computer and leave your computer on when you are ready to enjoy the entire contents of Rhapsody My Library on your Squeezebox.
