I'm on a corporate network or proxy, and songs keep getting stuck in buffering when I'm trying to listen to them on Rhapsody.com. What can I do?
Buffering allows Rhapsody
to receive and store data before it is played back. If the tracks you're
trying to listen to consistently get stuck in buffering and won't play, it's
likely that you're accessing Rhapsody.com through a restricted or filtered
connection such as a corporate proxy.
To resolve this issue, first make sure you're running the latest version of
Flash. You can get it here:
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
For users behind a
corporate proxy:
PC users, make sure that your proxy is configured inside both Internet Explorer
and your default web browser. Mac users, check the proxy settings for your
default browser. If you are unsure if you use a proxy or what its
settings are, you should contact your IT department for additional information.
These instructions are for IE 7 and 8:
- In Internet Explorer, click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
- Click the Connections tab, and then click LAN settings.
- Select the Use a proxy server for your LAN check box.
- In the Address box, type the address of the proxy server.
- In the Port box, type the port number.
- If your network requires separate proxy addresses for different services, such as HTTP, HTTPS, or FTP, click the Advanced button, and then type the individual proxy server addresses to use.
- When you are finished making changes, click OK until you return to Internet Explorer.
Once your proxy is
configured, close all web browsers and try again.
If you are still unable to stream any content while logged in, you should be
able to resolve this issue by selecting a different streaming option using the
link below:
http://playback.rhapsody.com/-static/players/engine/toggle/DeliveryToggle.html
Here is an explanation of the choices you will see:
- Use Tunneled Flash Streaming = RTMPTE 128 Kbps MP3 (This is the default setting with the current Flash player and is for paid subscribers only.)
- Use Direct Flash Streaming = RTMPE 128 Kbps MP3 (Also for subscribers only, this provides the same sound quality as the default setting.)
- Use HTTP Streaming = Http 64 kbps MP3 (The sound quality is lower at this setting, but this setting should work for everyone regardless of subscription status.)
We recommend that you first select the Direct Flash option and then try listening to a track. If you continue to have buffering problems, click the link again and select the HTTP Streaming option. Cycle through the options until you find the one you like.
