What can I do if I get one of the following errors when installing or signing in to Rhapsody?
- "Rhapsody requires an active internet connection"
- "No internet connection detected"
- "Downloading components failed"
If you're having trouble installing Rhapsody or connecting to its servers, it might be caused by your:
- firewall software
- proxy settings
- privacy software
- Internet Explorer settings
- parental controls software
- pop-up blockers
- compatibility mode settings
Note: The steps in this article do not apply to Rhapsody.com. If you're experiencing an issue on the Rhapsody website, please search again using keywords from the error message you're receiving.
These programs may also interfere with Rhapsody.
We're aware of some issues with aircards and satellite connections that might cause the download to fail. We recommend trying another connection (such as a PC), and following the troubleshooting steps below.
- If your D-Link router is disconnecting when you launch Rhapsody, this article may help.
- If the problem occurs when you sign in, the first thing to try is simply closing Rhapsody and re-launching it.
- If the problem persists, or happens after sign-in, please try the following solutions. You don't need to try all of them! After each one, try launching Rhapsody again, and if that doesn't work, move on to the next one.
Firewall/Proxy software:
Rhapsody requires access to certain domains and ports to function properly. Firewall and proxy software may need settings adjustment to allow these domains and ports.
The following domains need to be allowed through your firewall/proxy:
http://*.llnwd.net
http://*.real.com
http://*.rhapsody.com
http://*.listen.com
http://*.doubleclick.net
http://*.edgesuite.net
http://*.edgekey.net
http://*.akamai.net
- Click here for a list of ports that need to be allowed through firewalls and proxies.
Note: Instructions for some firewall software programs are below. If your software is not listed below, please contact your software manufacturer for information on how to allow Rhapsody to function through it, or information how to disable the software.
Corporate firewall or proxy server:
See Can I connect through a corporate firewall or proxy server?
Privacy software:
Please contact your software manufacturer for information on allowing Rhapsody to function through your privacy software, or for information how to disable the software.
Internet Explorer:
The Rhapsody software uses Internet Explorer's connection settings to function. Regardless of what browser you use to connect to the Internet, performing the following steps in IE can help to resolve the issue you're experiencing with the Rhapsody software:
- Open Microsoft Internet Explorer.
- Click the Tools menu, then choose Internet Options.
- Click the Security tab. In the "Security level for this zone" section, move the slider to Medium. If you do not have a slider, click the Default Level button (may be greyed out if already at Default level).
- Click the Privacy tab. In the "Settings" section, move the slider to Medium. If you do not have a slider, click the Default button (may be greyed out if already at Default level).
- Click the Sites button and make sure Listen.com, real.com, llnwd.net, rhap://rhapapp.real.com, rhapapp.real.com, and rhap://rhap-app-4-0.real.com are not listed under "Managed Web Sites." If any of these are, highlight them and click Remove.
- Click OK.
- Click the Connections tab.
- Click the LAN Settings button.
- The only thing you want checked here, in most cases, is "Automatically Detect Settings". If you do have a proxy server that you use, disregard this step.
- Click OK.
Please see Resetting Internet Explorer if you need more details.
Parental controls (ContentProtect) software:
- Double-click the ContentProtect icon in the tool tray.
- Enter your password.
- Click Overrides.
- Select the Applications tab.
- Select Browse Installed and choose rhapsody.exe.
- Close ContentProtect.
Pop-up blockers:
