'You could not be signed in', 'Network error', or 'Server error' message

I tried to sign into Rhapsody and but got one of these error messages:

  • "You could not be signed in. Please try again."

  • "Sorry, a network error has occurred and you have been signed out."

  • "A server error caused your account to disconnect."
What can I do?

These errors may appear if you have an outdated or corrupted cookie, your firewall is blocking Rhapsody, or you have a proxy setting inside Internet Explorer that is blocking Rhapsody.

Try the following solutions and after each step, try signing in again to see if your issue is resolved. If you are still unable to get Rhapsody to work, you can try clearing out temporary files, checking your firewall software, and some other fixes.

Solution 1: Make sure you are running the latest version of Rhapsody.
Go to www.rhapsody.com/-software and download and install the latest version of the Rhapsody player.

Solution 2: Restart your computer.
Close down all programs and restart (reboot) your computer. Then try opening Rhapsody again.

Solution 3: Make sure Rhapsody is allowed through your firewall.
Please read the Firewall/Proxy software section of this article.

Solution 4: Adjust the proxy settings inside Internet Explorer.

  1. Open Microsoft Internet Explorer.

  2. Click the Tools menu, then choose Internet Options.

  3. Click the Connections tab.

  4. Click the LAN Settings button. The Local Area Network (LAN) Settings window opens.

  5. If the Use a proxy server for your LAN box is checked, take a moment to write down the Address and Port info listed, and then uncheck the box.

  6. Click OK twice.

  7. Close Internet Explorer, and try to sign in to Rhapsody again.

If this does not work, be sure to go back and re-enable your proxy server (follow steps 1-4, and on step 5 just re-check the Use a proxy server for your LAN box).

Solution 5: Make sure the Proxy is set correctly in Rhapsody as you see in solution 4.

  1. Open the Rhapsody client.

  2. Click Tools and select Preferences.

  3. In the box on the left, click Connection.

  4. Under Enable proxy server, make sure the information matches what it states for the proxy in Internet Explorer.

Solution 6: Reset your Internet Explorer.

Follow the steps in this article.
