This 1993 set re-sparked Susannah McCorkle's career, earning her radio spins and audiences outside the jazz world. Sometimes the marketplace is right: Bessie to Brazil stands up as McCorkle's best LP, with definitive versions of "The People That You Never Get to Love," "Still Crazy..." and a bilingual "Waters of March." The departed McCorkle deserved a Diana Krall or Norah Jones level of success; she was a deeper artist.
