Guitarist/singer Seana Carmody’s (ex-Swirlies) voice saunters like a modern day Karen Carpenter through dense, My Bloody Valentine-esque walls of harmonic distortion and soupy, thunderous drum grooves. The keyboardist casts spells with droning, soaring notes, cutting the tether of random oscillations and sending them bleeping into space. Deceptively simple, feel-great melodies full of all sorts of mind-bending key modulations and sonic overtones create the imagery of a Fear and Loathing account of Fourth of July fireworks in technicolor. But alas, it appears that Syrup USA has indeed left the building for good. Their only release is probably stealing shelf space in a bin at your local Indie record store.
