Tanya Donelly's return with This Hungry Life finds her delivering a collection of sensual, sophisticated pop tinged with a country drawl, recorded live over two nights in a Bellows Falls, Vt., hotel. Amidst the slide guitar, violin and lazy grooves, Donelly's acrid alto takes center stage, especially on "World on Fire" and the shuffling title track. But it's Donelly's ability to write with literate ease and rock hard that makes this record her most touching solo effort, proving that her talents have aged extremely well.
